Bio

Born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang in 1976, Jin Shan is a self-taught artist with a creative practice he began in 2006 after a stint as a contemporary music composer. Jin’s continuous practice of writing feeds into his visual work, whereby an expression of narrative and the transformation of everyday life is essential to his creative process. In a 2018 group exhibition at OCT Art Centre in Shenzhen, he presented drawings and paintings with his written work that presented text as another visual medium. Jin is multi-disciplinary artist, working across painting, video and photography. Jin’s work has been exhibited widely, including his several solo exhibitions at Platform China Contemporary Art Institute, Beijing, and his work has been selected for group exhibitions in China, the UK and Australia. Jin Shan lives and works between Beijing and Hangzhou.
