Bio

In 2005, in a mood of mixed nostalgia and satire, four artists and a curator/critic founded an art collective. From the generation that had grown up during the Cultural Revolution, each had conflicting memories. Hong Hao (b. 1965, Beijing), Xiao Yu (b. 1965, Inner Mongolia), Song Dong (b. 1966, Beijing), Liu Jianhua (b. 1962, Ji’an), and Leng Lin (b. 1965, Beijing) formed a group; they were seeking a new kind of apolitical collectivism. The name of their organisation, Polit-Sheer-Form Office (translated literally from the Chinese, ‘the office of pure political form’) is intended to sound like an absurdist government bureaucracy. Each artist maintains their individual practice, coming together to plan playful collaborative multi-disciplinary projects and performances that emerge from brainstorming, reading, eating and drinking together; projects have been exhibited internationally. The collective members live and work in Beijing and Shanghai.
