Bio

Cao Zaifei, also known as Cao Yuanming, is a Chinese artist who was born in Suzhou, Anhui, in 1974. He graduated from Nanjing University of the Arts with a degree in Oil Painting and later earned a Master’s degree in Philosophy and Religion from Nanjing University. Currently based in Shanghai, Cao Zaifei is a prolific painter, sculptor, installation artist, videographer, and performer whose works explore social realities and respond to contemporary issues. Despite the pandemic, he remained highly productive and even gained recognition for his project reciting love poems at the blind date corner in Shanghai People’s Park. Cao Zaifei strives to challenge the utilitarian nature of the marriage market and evoke the “ideal love in poetry.” Alongside his artistic practice, he is a visiting scholar at Purdue University and teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts of Shanghai University.
