Huang Yishan was born in 1983 in Shantou, Guangdong, China and studied at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, where he currently teaches in the Oil Painting Department. He is most well-known for his flat, layered paintings of ambiguous interiors that explore spatial theory and the materiality of painting. Huang has exhibited in the UK, the US and widely across China. 2019 saw his second solo exhibition at Tang Contemporary Beijing. Huang lives and works in Beijing.
