Born in 1978, Xia Hang graduated from the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts before completing a Master of Fine Arts in the sculpture department of the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. The concept of play is central to Xia’s monumental steel sculptures that are made up of small, mechanical parts. Assembling intricate metal components have become his signature. Xia has exhibited widely across China and participated in group exhibitions that toured internationally. He has also exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea on Bondi Beach in 2017. Xia Hang is based in Beijing.
