Cao Shu

Bio

Cao Shu was born in 1987 in Jining, Shandong Province, China. He graduated from the New Media Art Department of China Academy of Art in 2009 with Bachelor’s degree, and from the Inter Media Art School of China Academy of Art in 2012 with Master’s degree. Since 2012 the artist has also been an educator and lecturer at the China Academy of Art. His practice includes but is not limited to new media art, 3D digital moving image, sound installation and interactive games. In 2019 the artist presented his work Roam Simulator at the Hive Center for Contemporary Art. Set up as a video game, this interactive installation takes audiences on a journey through a desert town to explore a person’s life, personal history, and memory. His works are often based on a specific place and space and ask open-ended questions. He hopes to reactivate historical events or personal memory at the perceptual level through experiments with different materials and media. Cao Shu lives and works in Hangzhou.
