Born in Jianying, Fujian Province in 1983, Chen Mingqiang studied in the School of Experimental Art at Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Arts, graduating with a BA in 2008 and an MFA in 2013. Lü Shengzhong, an influential teacher, sparked his interest in little-known folk art traditions, and their possible incorporation into contemporary art practices. His work has been included in numerous curated exhibitions in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Chen Mingqiang lives and works in Beijing, where he lectures at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
