Bio

Sometimes described as ‘contemporary fact versus fiction’, Chen Wan-Jen’s animated videos blur distinctions between reality and artifice, and between the observed and imagined. Taking quotidian scenes of found footage downloaded from the internet he collages these with fragments of video shot in real time. Intentionally ordinary scenes are thus animated in ways that recreate memory and return forgotten experiences to life. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Taiwan, New York and Paris. He was selected for the 2014 Taiwan Biennale, the 7th Busan International Video Festival and undertook a 2012 residency in New York at the International Studio and Curatorial Program. He lives and works in Taipei.
