Fang Di is a founding member of artist group ‘Jiu Society’. Self-described as “an ambiguous yet pointless independent art group” they formed in July, 2015.Jiu Society consists of three young people born and raised in Shenzhen: Fang Di, Ji Hao and Jin Haofan. They were middle school classmates and drifted apart after graduating from art school. In 2015, they all moved back to Shenzhen, a city with a complicated mixed population.They make humorous works that explore the uniqueness of this ‘Special Economic Zone’, a city of migrants from all over China and one of the fastest growing metropolises in the world. Fang Di lis interested in geopolitics and issues of urbanisation in the contemporary world. He currently lives and works between Shenzhen and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
