Bio

Gao Ge was born in Jining City, Shandong Province in 1964, graduating from Qufu Normal University Fine Arts Department in 1986. His drawings and sculptures are imbued with his religious faith, in which Daoist beliefs coalesce with the Christianity that is central to his life and art practice. Gao Ge’s hometown is strongly associated with Chinese philosophy and history; it is less than 50 kilometres from Qufu, a town considered by many to be the seat of Chinese civilisation, the birthplace of Confucius and his most famous follower, Mencius: Gao is a lifelong student of Confucius and Zhuangzi. Gao’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao and also in Taiwan. He lives and works between Beijing and Shandong Province, where he teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts, Shandong University of Technology.
