Bio

Hsu Chiao-Yen was born in Chiayi City, Taiwan in 1990. After graduating from the Department of Interior Design of Chaoyang University of Technology, Taiwan, in 2012, he continued his studies in the Institute of Plastic Art of Tainan National University of the Arts, awarded his MFA in 2016. Hsu’s works reveal his original degree specialisation in Interior Design. He cleverly manipulates materials and space to create environments of shapes and traces, using charcoal, acrylic and plastic among other unusual materials. Participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Taiwan and Japan, he was a finalist in many prizes including Taipei Arts Award 2016, and The Arising Artist Award of New Taipei City 2013. Hsu Chiao-Yen lives and works in Taichung.
