Bio

Contemporary artist Hu Yinping was born in a township suburb of Sichuan in 1983. She works across a variety of disciplines including sculpture, installation, and conceptual art. She often creates different artist “personas” or entities through which she creates and exhibits works. In 2006 she received her BFA, Sichuan Conservatory of Music, Chengdu Academy of Fine Arts, Chengdu and in 2010 her MFA, Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing. Hu Yinping builds and navigates social networks by crafting and reshaping events, characters, and personas. Through these, she activates human agency and often responds to her surroundings with wit, humour and vibrant energy. Although she completed her MFA at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2010, Hu’s practice extends far beyond traditional sculpture. She draws inspiration from chance encounters and spontaneous situations, turning them into thought-provoking artistic experiences. She lives and works in Beijing.
