Born in 1963 in Dharamsala, India, Lamdark grew up in Switzerland where he later apprenticed and worked as an interior architect. He went on to study at Parsons New School for Design in New York, and was awarded an MFA in Visual Art at Columbia University in 1997. His sense of displacement and cultural hybridity as a Tibetan artist living in Europe inflects his practice: his plastic sculptures are characterised by his use of recycled everyday found objects and unusual materials, combining references to Tibetan history and Buddhist theology with contemporary ‘junk’ pop culture. Lamdark lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland.
