Bio

Lin Zhipeng (aka No.223) was born in Guangdong, China in 1979. He is a leading figure of a new style of Chinese photography emerging in the last decade. Known as si shying (私摄影) or private photography, he has been likened to artists such as Ren Hang and Pixy Liao. Amidst an often-closed traditional culture, his photographs act as a collective not-so-private diary of a young generation pushing against the limits of the rigid social rules of conservative Chinese society. He is known for his ability to show the volatile, primal energy of China’s younger generation. His work explores topics of love, sexuality, gender, free expression, and consumption within the context of modern China. He graduated from the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies majoring in Financial English. He currently lives and works in Beijing.
