Liu Xiaodong
Liu Xiaodong was born in 1963 in the small factory town of Jincheng, Liaoning Province. His parents worked all their lives in the paper mill that was the centre of the town’s economy. Liu Xiaodong was trained in the rigorously academic oil painting department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, where he now teaches. He graduated with a BA in 1988, and attained his Master’s degree in 1995. During 1998 Liu studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Complutense University of Madrid. His work has been shown in significant group and solo exhibitions across the globe, including Art and China After 1989: Theater of the World, Guggenheim Museum, New York (2017). His work was included in the significant 2003 exhibition, Alors, la Chine? at Centre Pompidou, Paris, and in the Venice Biennale (2013, 1997). Liu Xiaodong lives and works in Beijing.
