Bio

Widely recognised for his singular approach towards sound and new technologies Samson Young work born in 1979 in Hong Kong. Young utilises performance, video, and installation to rigorously examine the cultural, political, and historical contexts of sound. Young says, “I’m Samson Young. I make stuff and I sometimes write music. I was originally trained as a composer but at some point I branched out. These days, I’m making videos, animations, installations, drawings, and performances, as well as music. Recently, I’ve also been doing a lot of 3D sculpture printing.” He was the founder of sound art & experimental music group CMHK, and a member of the Tomato Grey artist collective. Samson Young holds a B.A. in music, philosophy and gender studies from the University Sydney, an M.Phil. in music composition from the University of Hong Kong, and a Ph.D. in music composition from Princeton University. He currently lives and works in Hong Kong.
