Born in 1991 in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China, Wang Yuyu is a contemporary sculptor and multidisciplinary artist. She uses a mix of materials, images, words, sound, and performance to create artworks that place viewers in spaces that feel both familiar and strange. Her recent practice explores “nameless” manmade fields in urban and natural environments as well as cinematic contexts —imagining how the human body can help tell stories within these spaces. She holds a Master’s Degree in Sculpture from the Slade School of Art, University College London (2016) as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, UK (2014). Wang’s art explores the “in-between” state (liminality) of movement—how bodies and objects shift through time and space. She currently lives and works in Shanghai.
