Wei Rong was born in Beijing in 1963 and graduated from the printmaking department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1987. She is best known for her photorealistic paintings of contemporary women. Since the mid-90’s, Wei has explored feminist perspectives through the medium of figurative painting, often making reference to old master paintings from the western art historical canon. She has held exhibitions in the USA and in China. Wei lives and works in Beijing and Hong Kong.
