Born in Zhengzhou in 1983, Wu Chen studied painting at the Southwest Jiaotong University, graduating in 2007. Deeply influenced by western art history, he often juxtaposes intriguing elements from historical works in brightly coloured figurative compositions that reveal a keen sense of absurdity and humour. His work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibition in China, including ‘Beijing Contemporary Art Expo’, Beijing (2019); ‘Bad Man Can Also End Up in Heaven’, Beijing (2017); ‘Traverse – Course – 2016 Huayu Youth Award’, Sanya (2016); ‘The 6th Chengdu Biennale’, Chengdu (2013); and ‘Creative M50 Exhibition’, Shanghai (2009). Wu Chen currently lives and works in Chengdu and Beijing.
