Bio

Yuan Shun, a contemporary Chinese artist born in Shanghai in 1961, draws inspiration from his deep-rooted national pride in China’s space program and its global standing. His art serves as a profound exploration of his country’s past, present, and future, as evidenced in his notable 2006 series, “Landing on China.” Beneath his grand intergalactic visions, lies a profound concern for the environmental toll of modern civilization. Works such as the “Mindscape” series of 2003 and the installation “Soft Landing” in 2007 provocatively question the motives behind the space race and humanity’s moral responsibility. Yuan Shun’s art contemplates the potentially destructive nature of civilization, envisioning a future where all remnants are buried by dust—a powerful symbol he employs as a limitless medium to convey his message. With a rich exhibition history spanning international venues, Yuan Shun has made a lasting impact, challenging us to reflect on our place in the world. Yuan Shun lives and works in Berlin, Germany and Beijing, China.
