Creating astonishing trompe l’oeil works in the medium of clay, Ah Leon (real name Chen Ching-Liang) is regarded as one of Taiwan’s foremost ceramic artists. Born in 1953, Ah Leon graduated from the Taiwan National Academy of Arts in 1976. Studying as a painter before turning to ceramics, from 1978 he apprenticed himself to master potters in Taiwan. After travelling to the United States in 1987 Ah Leon began to merge his mastery of traditional Chinese techniques with new sculptural approaches. Since 1985 his work has been exhibited throughout Asia, Europe and America, including at the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Ah Leon lives and works in Taiwan.
