Bio

Huang Hai-Hsin was born in Taipei in 1984 and studied at both National Taipei University of Education and the School of Visual Arts, New York, USA, where she was awarded an MFA in 2009. Huang’s works explore images inspired by aspects of contemporary life, including banal everyday scenes with a twist – ambiguous narratives that fall somewhere between humour and horror. She takes inspiration from ordinary family photos, bad taste tourist attractions, museums and people photographed in awkward and unglamorous moments. Huang’s works mix wit with a meticulous attention to detail, creating her own unique aesthetic, and have been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Europe, the USA, Taiwan, Mainland China, Japan and Korea. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, USA.
