Jin Nv
Born in 1984 in Qinhuangdao, a port city in north-eastern Hebei Province, Jin Nv studied sculpture in China’s pre-eminent powerhouse art academy, the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. A star student, her work in the White Rabbit Collection was completed before she graduated in 2007. Her work since that time has become increasingly figurative and even illustrative, however, she has maintained an interest in transformation and metamorphosis which underpins her work Exuviate 2: Where Have All the Children Gone? ‘Exuviate’ refers to the casting off or shedding of a skin or shell, and Jin Nv was thinking of the transition from child to adult as resembling the emergence of a creature from its cocoon. Her work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions in China, Europe and the United States, including the Long Museum, Shanghai (2016), the Today Art Museum, Beijing (2015), the National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta (2013) and the 18th Biennale of Sydney on Cockatoo Island (2012). Jin Nv lives and works in Beijing.
