Bio

Contemporary artist Liu Yujun was born in Heilongjiang in 1996 and moved to Nanjing when she was nine years old. As an adult she has spent most of her time in Hangzhou as well as Shanghai and Germany. Her practice often expands from painting into spatial installation, forming hybrid works that merge multiple media. The material differences introduce freer expressive dimensions and a sculptural physicality, while also generating a productive tension between contradiction and resolution. In 2015–2019 she received her BA from the Department of Chinese Painting, China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, in 2019–2022 her MFA from the Department of Chinese Painting, China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, and in 2023–2026 was a PhD Candidate at China Academy of Art, Hangzhou. She received the ASA Scholarship for an exchange program at HFBK Hamburg twice, between 2021-2022 and 2024-2025. Liu Yujun currently lives and works in Hangzhou and Shanghai.
