Qin Qi was born in 1975 in Xi’an, Shaanxi. He studied paiting ar the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang, graduating with an MA from the department of Oil Painting in 2002. Qin Qi is a Chinese contemporary painter who primarily works with oil paint on canvas. Many of his paintings are characterised by their surreal elements, in which he reimagines ordinary objects or landscapes in unfamiliar contexts. His work exemplifies many of the concerns expressed by artists of his generation, who navigate an uncertain and changing world in China. Since Qin Qi emerged in the art world in 2002, he has created work that both negates and advances ideas and styles, forging a distinctive path for himself within a new generation of painting. Qin Qi lives and works between Shenyang, where he teaches at the Lu Xun Academt of Fine Arts, and Beijing.
