Bio

Qiu Anxiong was born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province in 1972, and studied at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing, graduating in 1994. Between 1997 and 2003 he studied painting at University Kassel’s Kunsthochschule, before returning to China to live and work in Shanghai. Qiu transforms two-dimensional works into an experimental time-based form using stop-frame animation to critique contemporary issues, exhibiting his work internationally in solo and group exhibitions. Qiu Anxiong’s work has been shown internationally, including in the 6th and 7th Asia Pacific Triennials at the Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane, and Ink Art: Past as Present in Contemporary China at the Metropolitan Museum, New York (2013).
