Painter and photographer Sun Hongbin was born in Juancheng County, Shandong Province, in 1970. He studied at the Central Academy of Art and Design (now Tsinghua University) in Beijing, graduating in 1991. In the years following graduation, Sun worked as a photographer, exhibiting his work in Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Guangzhou, as well as in Denmark and the USA. He also taught art and design at Zhengzhou Light Industry University, becoming more interested in painting than photography from around 2005. At first, he concentrated on traditional Chinese landscapes, but after 2008, he began to paint in a western figurative style. Sun Hongbin lives and works in Beijing.
