Conceptual artist and painter Yao Peng was born in Siping, Jilin Province, in 1984. He studied oil painting at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing, graduating with a BA in 2008 and an MFA in 2012; he taught there in 2013, before moving to Beijing. Yao’s work, often deconstructing and critiquing the linguistic foundations of the authoritarian state, have been exhibited widely in solo and group shows within China, and in Taipei, Hong Kong and Florence. Yao Peng lives and works in Beijing.
