Bio

Born in Xi’an in 1966, Yu Hong entered Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1984, after attending its affiliated high school. Although the heady experimental days of the ‘Stars’ group took place while she was still a teenager, she witnessed the dramatic changes brought about by the ‘85 New Wave art movement that culminated in the 1989 China/Avant-garde exhibition in Beijing. Yu graduated with a BA from the Oil Painting Department in 1988 and was awarded an MFA in 1996. One of China’s most celebrated realist painters, her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions within and beyond China, including ‘Yu Hong: Garden of Dreams — CAFA Annual Fine Arts Nomination Exhibition’, CAFA Art Museum, Beijing (2016). Yu Hong lives and works in Beijing, where she teaches painting to graduate students at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
