Born in Beijing in 1993, Zhang Ji’s work often features shifting compositions, bizarre shapes of light areas and lines, which usually partition and compress the human body. Zhang Ji’s practice is defined by dynamic compositions of curved, diagonal, and vertical lines, with visible brushstrokes and traces creating a sense of instability. He prioritises the act of seeing over producing finished images, preserving experimental marks to capture fleeting perceptions and embrace uncertainty. His work presents the body as both a personal and social medium, using painting to reveal hidden aspects of human experience. Zhang Ji obtained a BFA in Advance Painting in 2017 from the School of Art Institute of Chicago, and his MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2020.
