Zhu Changquan

Bio

Zhu Changquan was born in 1989 in Heze, Shandong Province. He studied in the influential Intermedia Art faculty of Hangzhou’s prestigious China Academy of Art, where he majored in film, graduating in 2014. His practice is often focused on his observations of the rituals of everyday life, and how people experience and are influenced by film, video and the moving image. In Zhu’s work, everyday scenes and objects are re-created and transformed to generate new and sometimes disturbing narratives. His work has been widely exhibited in curated exhibitions within and beyond China. Recent solo exhibitions include Zhu Changquan:The History of an Action,2019, Avenida da Nave Desportiva, Cotai, Macau (2019); History of an Action, OCAT Shanghai, Shanghai (2018) and Head Without Brain, Vanguard Gallery, Shanghai (2017). His awards include the “Best Animation Award” in the 10th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Award (2013) and the Lin Fengmian Creation Gold Prize (2014). Zhu Changquan lives and works between Hangzhou and Shanghai.
