Hou Lien-Chin was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 1981. He studied sculpture at the National Taiwan University of the Arts, graduating in 2003, and was awarded a master’s degree from the Institute of Plastic Arts at the Tainan National University of the Arts in 2007. While still a student, he worked in his vacations in the studio of a stone-carving sculptor, which inspired him to master this demanding medium. He has participated in international events including the Hualien International Stone Sculpture Symposium (2011 and 2014); the 12th China Changchun International Sculpture Symposium (2011); the 16th Korea Icheon International Sculpture Symposium (2013); the New Zealand Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Symposium (2014); the 5th Differdange International Stone Symposium, Luxembourg (2015) and the Korea Mosan Art Museum International Art Symposium (2015). His work has been shown widely in and beyond Taiwan. Hou Lien-Chin lives and works in Tainan.
