Born in 1984 in Shanghai, Lu Yang graduated in 2010 with a Master of Arts in New Media from the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, a centre of innovation and experimentation in digital artforms. Her innovative works often take the form of music videos but the two themes that constantly recur are neuro-science and religion. She achieved significant international exposure very quickly following her graduation, with a solo museum show in Beijing in 2017, as well as exhibitions in Copenhagen, New York and Shanghai. Her work has been seen in curated shows in Europe, the United States, Japan and Australia. Lu Yang was selected for the Chinese Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale (2015). She lives and works in Shanghai.
