Bio

Song Hongquan was born in 1978 in Baoding, Hebei Province, the son of a well-known stone carver. His hometown is in Quyang County, famous throughout China for more than two thousand years for its marble, granite and jade. Song had no formal instruction in carving; he says he learned by watching his father and other master carvers at work. He now teaches in the Department of Experimental Art at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Beijing and Hong Kong. Song Hongquan lives and works in Beijing.
