Multi-disciplinary artist Wang Yuyang was born in Heilongjiang Province, China, in 1979. He graduated from Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Arts with an MA in 2008 and currently teaches in the Experimental Art department of the academy. Wang Yuyang questions the role of technology in the contemporary world, and our interface with it – that is, our interactions with the digital and the robotic – while utilizing everyday objects to create the illusion of futurism. In the extensive Breathe series he creates apparently living, cyborgian beings from the most ordinary, everyday things – an ATM, a washing machine, an old minivan. Wang Yuyang’s work has been exhibited in major museum group shows in China and internationally. He lives and works in Beijing.
