Wang Zhiyuan

Wang Zhiyuan

Born in Tianjin in 1958, Wang Zhiyuan studied fine art in the printmaking department at Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Arts. Post the Tiananmen incident of June 1989, he came to Australia where he completed his master’s degree at the Sydney College of Fine Arts, graduating in 2000. Wang stayed in Sydney for the next 10 years before returning to China. Wang often makes what he calls “fragmented wall sculpture” reliefs that distort the scale of everyday objects and symbols. Since 2009, he has also began incorporating video images and electronic components to his largescale installations.
