Yan Siwen was born in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province in 1989. In 2012, after graduating from the Photography Department of the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, she headed to New York for a short-term exchange program at Alfred University. After returning to Shenyang, she continued her further studies in photography at the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, where she was awarded a master’s degree in 2015. Her work often recalls vintage collodion or ambrotype photographs and depicts lonely remnants of the past and the artist’s own memories. She has participated in several curated exhibitions in Shenyang, Beijing and Chongqing. Yan Siwen currently lives and works in Shenzhen.
