Jiang Zhi was born in Yuanjiang City, Hunan Province, in 1971 and graduated from the China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, in 1995. Participating in the avant-garde — often transgressive — exhibitions of the 1990s, such as ‘Post-Sense Sensibility’, Jiang experimented with diverse media and art forms, including painting, photography, video and installation, as well as writing poetry and novels. Since the 1990s his work has been exhibited widely, within China and internationally. Jiang was awarded the Credit Suisse Today Art Award in 2012, and the academic achievement award at ‘Reshaping History: Chinart from 2000-2009’, at the National Convention Centre, Beijing. Jiang Zhi lives and works in Beijing.
